About This Location

Hakalau Forest NWR on the Big Island of Hawaii protects one of the last intact native Hawaiian rainforests and is the best place to see endangered Hawaiian honeycreepers. Species like the Hawaii Akepa, Akiapolaau, and Hawaii Creeper survive here in koa-ohia forests that are under active restoration.
